Latest News:

It is with a huge amount of disappointment the Committee announces Speed Week 9-14th March 2026 has been CANCELLED due to severe weather events affecting the lake and, mainly, access to the lake. All scenarios and avenues were considered - this has not been not a decision taken lightly.

However, good news! The DLRA will now hold a second, annual, event for Land Speed Racing in November - dates for the first Spring time event are set at November 23rd-28th 2026. Finer details and specifics will be communicated in due course.

DAM Classic Racing is a sponsor of the Dry Lake Racers Australia referred to as the DLRA. The Dry Lakes Racers Australia are the official sanctioning body for dry lakes racing in Australia and they conduct the annual Speed Week at Lake Gairdner in South Australia, Australia.

In 2019, historically being the 70th Anniversary Year of Laverda motorcycles, Angus Parish (D.A.M. Classic Racing) set a new Land Speed Record in the 500cc Classic Production Class on a 1977 Laverda 500 Alpina with the fastest time recorded at 113.859mph and a record 111.261mph. This record stood unbeaten until 2023 when it was bettered by a 1982 KTM 500 at 114.14mph.

The story of the record attempt has been published in the book 'Legendary Laverda 1949-2019’ Author Jean Louis Olive (France)
The last line of the text reads: 'This is probably the fastest speed ever recorded for the Laverda 500cc Alpina.
