46504070.2 Surflex Clutch Friction Plates RGS & Series 2. 1000 ( S2609/B )
Product Description
This Clutch set includes friction plates only
The RGS and Series 2 clutch kits contain an extra friction plate that is placed adjacent to another friction plate, without a steel plate between, to reduce clutch noise. These two friction plates are fixed together by two very small Friction Plate Springs. Clutch operation is not affected by not re-installing the two springs and clutch noise will be similar to all other Laverda models.
NOTE: The extra friction plates in this kit do not have the drill holes to accept the Friction Plate Springs.
When fitting this clutch it is advisable to check the Clutch Cush Drive Rubbers at the same time, there should be no movement between the large sprocket and the clutch drum
Most late models have M6 hex bolts installed to fix the cush drive cover plate to the clutch drum. Earlier models used 5mm diameter rivets
Remove these rivets to replace the cush drive rubbers. Grind off the tops of the rivets, use a 3mm or 4mm drill to drill out the full length of the rivet, then use a 5mm punch to gently tap them out. Take great care not to use excessive force that damages the alloy casting. Use an M6x1 Thread Tap to cut a thread in the alloy to accept M6x20 Hex Bolts and Spring Washers that replace the rivets. it is recommended for this procedure to be carried out by qualified persons using appropriate engineering equipment.
You are welcome to ship your clutch drum to us at DAM Classic Racing and we will complete this modification, fit new rubbers and return it to you with your parts order
Other Parts you may consider necessary to complete the replacement may be a Lock Tab Washer for the crank sprocket and a Primary Cover Gasket for your model
INSTALLATION TIP
To enhance the benefits when fitting new SURFLEX Clutch Plates, it is recommended that new oil should be used .
The new friction plates should be submersed in the new engine or transmission oil for two hours prior to fitment.
This allows the clutch plate material to absorb the oil to assist with the initial start up and ongoing usage.
The other clutch components should be thoroughly inspected for wear and suitablity prior to re-assembly - replace if necessary.
